Hey hunters, if you're having DPS issues, follow this post as best as you can, and you shouldn't have any problems anymore. Any questions, please don't hesitate to send me an in-game mail, or whisper me when I'm on.

If Hit Capped:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#cZ0eVoZx ... hsu:ANi0MV

If Under Hit Cap (<263):

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#cZceVZx0 ... hsk:NAiM0z

Pet Talents
http://www.wowhead.com/?petcalc#0Mzzoccz0hok

**Note: If you're under 5% hit rating, spec all 3 points into focused aim, for every % you're over 5%, spec one less point into it.
Example:
<5%=3 points
6%=2 points
7%=1 point (Or you could try no points once you hit 7%, since your misses won't be so bad, and you could probably make up for it with a hit gem)

Ichigó's Armory:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-tale ... the+Family

TALENTS:
------------------------
Survivalist
------------------------

Improved tracking: 5 points
Trap Mastery: 3 points
Survival Instincts: 2 points
Survivalist: 5 points
T.N.T.: 3 points
Lock n' Load: 3 points
Hunter Vs. Wild: 3 points
Killer Instincts: 3 points
Lighting Reflexes: 5 points
Resourcefulness: 3 points
Thrill of the Hunt: 3 points
Hunting party*: 3 points
Expose Weakness: 2 points
Wyvern Sting: 1 points
Master Tactician: 5 points
Noxious Stings: 3 points
Black Arrow: 1 point
Sniper Training: 3 points
Explosive Shot: 1 point
------------------------------
Marksman
------------------------------

Lethal Shots: 5 points
Careful Aim: 3 points
Mortal Shots: 5 points
Aimed Shot: 1 point
Focused Aim**: 3 points

**-If your hit is over 230 (7%) then you are nearly capped, and do not need to waste points in here
*-If you're not hit capped, then you will not be able to put points in here because they will be used on Focused Aim, so instead put one point in Go for the Throat
Note: Hunting Party will be absolutely essential to have when coming to raids. It replenishes .25% of mana for the raid party, making it incredibly helpful during boss fights. Get hit capped as soon as you can and spec into it.

--------------------
Stat Priority
--------------------

Generally for Survivor hunters, Agility is the top stat that you want to gem/enchant and gear towards. It doubles your AP for every agility point. (10 agility= 20 AP). That being said, here's the order:

1) Agility
2) Attack Power
3) Armor Penetration
4) Critical Strike Rating
5) Haste

NOTE: This priority list is assuming you are hit capped. If not, refer to the talent build at the beginning to make up for your lack of hit.

It should also be noted that this list is not a say all for hunter stats. You should look at this list as if you could pick the top stats for a piece of gear, this is what you'd want on it. I prefer Arm Pen/crit over haste (attack power should be on every piece of gear you have, except for some trinks)
----------------------
Glyphs
----------------------

Kill Shot- Reduce cooldown by 9 secs.
Explosive Shot- Increase crit rating of explosive shot by 4%
Steady shot- Increases damage of steady shot by 10% when serpent when your target is afflicted by Serpent Sting
----or------
Serpent Sting-Increases Serpent Sting DOT by 6 secs
(I'd suggest Serpent Sting over steady shot now that steady shot has been nerfed since the expansion. It allows for a longer DOT and it's one less thing to worry about during boss fights)
---------------------------
Shot Rotation
---------------------------

Pretty easy for hunters:

Kill Shot- Whenever this procs, always use it first, no matter what.
Black Arrow- You should always cast this whenver the cooldown is up. It accounts for 6% additional damage
Explosive Shot- Because Lock n' Load procs off of Black Arrow, always hit explosive shot immediately after Black Arrow
Serpent Sting- It's an essential DOT for hunters, keep an eyeout and always keep it up!
Aimed Shot- It's an instant cast, 'nuff said
Steady shot- Use this as a last resort to fill up time between CDs of Explosive Shot

========
Marcos
========

Macros can be set up to your own style of play, but here's a few that I found very useful. (shift+click the abilities from your spellbook)

/cast Hunter's Mark
/cast furious howl (if you have a wolf)
/petattack (not in spellbook, just spell it out)
/cast auto shot

*And if you want one specially for boss fights, create another one with everything above and add*:

/cast Call of the Wild
/use (w/e trinkets you have)
/cast rapid fire

*Another good macro for hunters to use for misdirect looks like this*

/tar(or target) tank name
/cast Misdirection
/assist

Helpful in fights where things get a little hectic, and finding the tank is difficult, or before a pull.

==========
Foods & Flasks
==========

These are the best foods and flasks that you can have for raids.

Flask of Endless Rage
Increases attack power by 180. Lasts 1 hour. This effect persists through death.
Can't go wrong with this flask. They can get pricey though. Keep checking the AH for the right price. I usually nab up a stack's worth when the price is less than 40g a piece.

Mega Mammoth Meal
Increases attack power by 80
Mats are easy to come by (chunk o' mammoth and northern spices)

Blackened Dragonfin
Increases Agility by 40
Some people like to use the fish feasts that are dropped in raids, but not me. I like this food buff because as a SV hunter, it doubles attack power (40 Agi= 80) and it gives you a nice crit boost too. Dragonfin Angelfish (2) and northern spices. [/color]

Spiced Mammoth treats
Increases stamina and strength of your pet by 30
Absolutely critical if you want to squeeze every last bit of DPS out of your toon. Mats are really easy to come by (Chunk o' mammoth and northern spices)

========

(Good enchant if you don't want to splurge on the better one)

Increases attack power by 32
Mats: 8 Infinite dust, greater cosmic essence
(can only be done by enchanters)

===========
Add-Ons
===========

Some really helpful Add-Ons for Hunters to have:

DoTimer-Makes it a breeze to keep track of Serpent Sting, which could get confusing if you have more than one hunter in the raid with you.

RangeDisplay
-Helps you know when you're within optimal range of a target.

Omen Threat Meter
-Incredibly helpful to make sure you don't pull aggro off of the tank. A good indication of when you should use Feign Death.

Zug Zug Huntar-An awesome add-on that changes your tracking to whatever mob you're currently attacking. (Works best for SV hunters who have Improved tracking) *Thanks Ghoztly for the info!

ALL ADD ONS CAN BE FOUND ON www.curse.com

*Note: DBM is already mandatory for all raids.

As always, hope this helps!

HEROIC GEAR
===========

The purpose of this list of gear is for hunters to do heroics to get decent gear before moving on to the 10 and 25 man raids. I highly recommend that you get as much of this gear as you can before attempting to move on to bigger raids. The best part is that you can run these heroics daily until you get them.

-Plunderer's Helmet-UK
-King Dred's Helm-DTK

============
BADGE GEAR
============

-Ring of Invincibility- 25 valor badges
-Hammerhead Sharkskin Cloak- 25 valor badges
-Pendant of the Outcast Hero- 25 heroism badges
-Armguard of the Tower Archer-60 valor badges (one of the best bracers in the game)
-Pack Ice Striders-40 valor badges
-Vereesa's silver chain belt-40 heroism badges

That's it for heroic dungeons and badge gear. Most of these are blues, some (all the badge stuff) of them purples, either way, you should have no greens on you.

As always, hope this helps!

This macro makes improved tracking really useful.

/stopmacro [noexists]
/run for i=1,GetNumTrackingTypes() do local n, t, a, c = GetTrackingInfo(i); if string.find(n, UnitCreatureType("target")) then if t~=GetTrackingTexture(i) then SetTracking(i); end end end
/cast Hunter's Mark
/petattack

the pet attack is optional of course.

Good info on the specs. Today, I will be reconfiguring my points in an effort to optimize my gear which is, needless to say, gimped compared to most peeps here. I have been studying different configurations for a good while last night and today and see some measureable error in my current config. I do, however, have a concern. I was reading up on some of the hunter-related macros and noticed that you suggest using a /cast Furious Howl or a /cast Call of the Wild. Why would casting them outright be any more efficient than just right-clicking them and having them active all the time to merely activate whenever the cool-down is up?

You make a good point Jed, but there is a good reason behind it:

Call of the Wild is a really good CD that hunters can use, and I like to double up on it during a fight where massive DPS is needed (For example, during the Twins encounter when the Twin's Pact begins to be casted, and we have to break through the shield) OR, whenever a Bloodlust is popped, I can double up by using Call of the Wild (If you notice, my toon will yell "BAN-KAI" marking when I've used Call of the Wild) You also really should save it up at the very least for when Kill Shot procs during a boss fight.

You are right on Furious Howl, I've removed it from my macro quite a while ago, I just never edited the macro here on the forums.

So in summary: Keep Call of the Wild on passive and only activate it with a macro during key moments in a boss fight, and you can omit Furious Howl for the beginning of any encounter (and leave it active). Hope this answers your concerns, and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to hit me up in-game.

Hello again! Just figured I would post a good website where you guys can check how your dps would be in accordance to your gear, and buffs. The website is called:
www.femaledwarf.com
Just input your toon's name in the armory import, and go to "Shot rotation" and click "enable common shot rotation". Find your pet, and do the same for his spec. At the bottom there'll be something to click called "Update DPS". It should give you a good estimate of what you should be doing with no buffs, in a 5 minute fight, and it includes using viper sting to bring your mana back up.

This is an incredibly helpful website to see how a piece of gear, or a gem will affect your dps. Something to keep in mind though: It does not account for how YOU play. For example: according to this website, Serpent Sting Glyph is a superior glyph for me. However, I've ran numerous test runs, tried it out in guild raids, and I've noticed that the way I play, Steady Shot is the better glyph for me. Mostly, I use this site to see how a piece of gear will do for me. It's incredibly helpful for finding out if your rotation/spec/whatever is the best. But remember to take the results with a grain of salt.

As always, I hope this helps!
